Yolanda Rene’ Travis
Ms. Travis was born inSt. Louis, Missouri and raised in San Francisco, California. She now lives in Stockton, California where she enjoys writing material that brings awareness to topics that are edgy, and she enjoys igniting discussions that gets people talking and thinking about different points of views
Yolanda has a BA degree in Consumer and Family Studies from San Francisco State University and a BS degree in Psychology from Calfornia State University-Sacramento. While working for the San Francisco Unified School District as a Community Relations Specialist for twelve years, Yolanda worked with many children experiencing violence in the home. The effect domestic violence has on young minds is so prevalent, it often filtered into the classroom and to the playgrounds. While working with these students, she also found herself advising the parents who found themselves trapped in their abusive relationships. Yolanda educated herself on the mental and physical adversities of domestic violence. She gained the knowledge and the ability to empower these women and children with courage and emotional support, and also provided resources.
Yolanda’s personal interest in the subject matter is largely due to an abusive childhood, which took its toll in her early and late adolescence. Additionally, her relationship with men in her early adulthood was overwhelming. Her need to express the pain of these experiences was the primary catalyst for giving birth to WAAM-Women Against Abusive Men, thereby, empowering herself.
Likewise, she intends to empower all women and awaken all men through this fictional depiction of what can happen if the abuse towards women continues to escalate…pain and devastation will give birth to WAAM.
