THE MEANING OF LIFE

I’ve finally got it.
At first I found myself naive to think such a thing.
But with age came wisdom.
And thus, the meaning of life.

Think me crazy.
But I tell you I’m not.
The meaning of life is to suffer.
How else can one place value on mortality.

If there was no suffering,
There would be no purpose,
No appreciation of the little things.
Such as, the sweet smell of a rose.
The aroma of a good morning cup of
coffee.

The laughter of your child growing, grown, and now gone.
An eight hours workday stretched into ten
Just to earn enough money to cover the mortgage.

And oh, yes, the tired muscles and achy back that remains us
All that we can no longer do those cartwheels we so enjoyed when we were little,
On the playground,
Back then,
Back when,
Life held no purpose,
No meaning,
No suffering.

For we where children back then.
Young,
Naïve,
And innocent.

WANT TO BE MY LOVER

I don’t think he’s interested in my mind
But I’m interested in his mind
What’s going on inside his head?
The one on his shoulder, not between his legs

He’s going through the motions
Empty conversation
How’s the weather
Come here often

I know where he’s headed
One night of passion
I know what he’s thinking
No ring on my finger
Just wants to be my lover
If only for a night

His mind is not thinking
Not the one on his shoulder
I can only read the head between his legs
I turn to wake away

He follows
Going thought the motions
Empty conversation
Do you want to dance?
Can I buy you a drink?

I know where he’s headed
One night of passion
I know what he’s thinking
But it doesn’t matter
Just wants to be my lover
If only for a night

RESTLESS BODY OF WATER

Restless body of water
Thrashing against me.
Surrender your knowledge,
Your wisdom,
As I surrender mine.
Let it be welcomed.
Let us become as one.
I have studied your calmness,
Your restlessness,
For I am restless too;
Restless in this life,
Yet calm before you

Floating.
I am floating.
I now join with you.
You are overpowering.
I feel your strength.
I fear your power.
I realize that I am not alone.
I relax and let go.

Sinking.
I am sinking.
For in your bosom
I fill the strength of many souls.
They have entrusted themselves to you.
You are their salvation,
Their reason for rejecting life…
My reason for rejecting life.

As I struggle to survive
Trying to hold on,
Yet wanting to let go,
For your spirit engulfs me,
I release my soul.

I accept the darkness surrounding me.
The tranquility that’s now within.
I accept the restless waters
Thrashing me upon the shore,
Bringing my restless soul to an end.
